Abingdon Court, Oxfordshire

About this project

2007 – Shortlisted for Pinders Healthcare Design Awards

November 2006 saw Colin Dexter (writer of Inspector Morse) open the doors of Abingdon Court care home to the public.

Abingdon Court contains 64 high specification bedrooms set in 0.8 acres of land on the banks of the River Ock in Abingdon.

The active frontage on both southern and northern sides of the building is designed to stimulate residents vitality and interests while the massing responds to the height and forms of neighbouring premises whilst respecting the sites narrowness.

The £2.85m home, which offers dementia, nursing and residential care also features a glowing glass box to the eastern elevation that changes colour during the twilight hours.

The successful outcome of breathing life into a redundant site could only be achieved through intelligent planning.
